Abstract: EEOC Responds to Mitsubishi Motor Hiring Lynn Martin

April 25, 1996. Washington. Statement of EEOC Chairman Gilbert F. Casellas:

I have been informed of news reports that Mr. Tsuneo Ohinouye, the chairman and chief executive officer of Mitsubishi Motor Manufacturing of America, has stated that Mitsubishi is interested in pursuing settlement discussions with the EEOC in connection with the lawsuit filed by the agency on April 9, 1996. This lawsuit alleges widespread sexual harassment and retaliation at Mitsubishi's plant in Normal, Ill. We are encouraged by Mr. Ohinouye's statement and remain open to discussions that may lead to resolution of this very serious matter.
