2006 January Sales - Dying

Mitsubishi! > Cars > Sales > USA > 2006 > January Sales

2006 Eclipse coupe sales fell sharply to 1,559 units from over 2,000 units in the prior month. Novelty of the ne model seems to be wearing off pretty rapidly. In all, it sold 7,469 units compared to 7,269 a year ago - a solid increase of 200 units in the entire USA! Just kidding. ;) However, when one excludes the sales of Eclipse model that sold only 775 units in 2005 January, Mitsubishi Motors sold 5,910 units in January 2006 compared to 6,594 units in January 2005, indicating that the sales dropped over 12 percent! No revival in sight!

SUV sales fell 14 percent to 2,131 units from 2,475 units a year ago. Lacer was another poor performer, selling just 1,446 units.

In summary, a very very bad start for Mitsubishi Motors of America.

Toyota, Honda Shine

Toyota Motors sold over 160,000 vehicles, an increase of 14 percent over same period last year. Honda's sales were up by 21 percent to over 98,000 vehicles.

GM sales were up by 6 percent. It needs to be seen which company, if it happens, declares bankruptcy first - GM or Mitsubishi. Although it must be said that Mitsubishi's backers - other major Mitsubishi group companies - seem to be able to throw money at this loser company. It has something to do with ordinary shareholders unable to hold management accountable in Japan, in mitsubishisucks' view.
