December 2005 sales of 9673 vehicle was 13 percent below Mitsubishi Motors' December 2004 vehicle sales. So much for sales recovery! Especially if one excludes the sales of new 2006 Eclipse of 2096 compared to 875 units of the aging Eclipse sold in December 2004, the sales drop is more dramatic - about 26 percent. 2006 Raider was introduced prior to this month but it seems like it has completely failed to excite the public.
Its Galant line dropped in sales by about 40 percent to 2371 units compared to 3980 units sold during December 2004. Endeavor (sales 2342) did somewhat better but the story is the same. Excluding Eclipse, Galant and Endeavor, the sales was 2864 units compared to sales of 4515 units during the same month last year - a drop of about 36 percent. Lancer line seems to be dying. It seems like it sold 1669 Lancers compared to 2373 last year - a drop of about 30 percent. Perhaps thanks to this site would-be-buyers found out about its extremely poor safety rating!
SUV and truck sales had the same story. Excluding Endeavor, it sold 790 units and it included Outlander, Montero, Montero Sport and 2006 Raider! Last year Oulander by itself sold 1298 units during the month of December.
Experts are forecasting lowert sales during 2006. In 2005 Mitsubishi sold 123,995 vehicles. In 2004 it had sold 161,609 units! How will Mitsubishi fare in such market condition in 2006? Well, we all know the answer.
