Consumer Reports Places 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse Last
In its December 2005 issue Consumer Reports tested four sports cars - Chevrolet Cobalt SS, Acura RSX, Scion tC, and Mitsubishi Eclipse GS. Eclipse placed dead last. In fact, according to its PR release - Mitsubishi Eclipse finished last among the 10 sporty coupes that have been tested recently by Consumer Reports! (Subaru Impreza WRX STi and the Mazda RX8 were its top-rated picks.)
The following is what Consumer Reports had to say in its press release about Mitsu Eclipse 06:
'The Eclipse shares a platform with the Galant sedan. Its styling suggests a sporty demeanor, but underneath it's rather ordinary. It lacks agility and quickness, two critical ingredients of a sporty car, and it has a cramped, uncomfortable cabin. The coupe's stiff ride doesn't translate into sporty handling. The Eclipse (USD21,764 as tested) comes with a 162-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that provides adequate performance but isn't very sporty. The five-speed manual is clumsy and has long shifter travel.'...
Oh my!
Eclipse is among 10 Worst Cars for Tall Drivers - Consumer Reports
Consumer Reports took a closer look at recent test scores of 2002 to 2006 models for seat comfort, driving position, access, and the view out. It found that if you are 'tall' then Mitsubishi Eclipse cars might be bad for you. (Based on Consumer Reports' PR on Feb 3, 2006.)
Does this mean that Mitsubishi Eclipses are good for 'short' drivers of height say 5 feet 1 inch, the lowest range of their test sample? We can't be sure because it didn't make their list of 10 best cars for short drivers. Our view is that 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse is bad for you if you are tall, as well as short and medium.
