Complaint Description: having repaired the transmission and transfer case, the transmission output shaft had sheared, also shearing the transfer case input coupling. cost of repairs, $2,800 to rebuild both items, plus rental car ($1,000). the transmission has been replaced twice under warranty; once at 4,069 (new unit), and the other at 46,122 miles (rebuilt) due to internal failures. in talking with both mesa mitsubishi (mesa, az) and mitsubishi customer support (costa mesa, ca) there is no or has there been an excessive failure of this transmission. i beg to differ with that. after researching the internet for a couple of weeks i know of at least 1 dozen of people who have had multiple transmissions changed. with mitsubishi only selling new/rebuilts at $5,000 a piece and parts from get drag very hard to get, they are making people purchase a whole unit versus parts to rebuild, along with ineffective design and early failure of those items. .
